      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Jun 22</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-480b</link>
<description>Welcome to the first part of our core DIY series where you will learn how to use basic tools and learn basic skills to help you with your DIY projects. In this first course, you will learn about all different types of saws, drills, and typical tools needed to hang a heavy backlit wall mounted mirror.

You might be asking, why a heavy backlit wall mounted mirror? Well, it applies to a very common household DIY project - how to properly mount an object like a TV, projector, or coat rack that must be hung properly to avoid injury. We also don&apos;t have a huge stock of heavy backlit wall mounted mirrors, so we will cut a mirror-shaped template out of plywood to mimic it. Thus this class gives students experience to a wide range of tools and materials, which is the goal of Tools and Skills: Part 1!

We will use the following tools during this class:

Miter saw
Pocket hole jig
Laser level/bubble level
Drill/impact driver
Rotary hammer drill with SDS Plus bits
Circular Saw
Jig Saw
Stud Finder
Inspection Camera
Different measuring tools

You will also get experience working with:

Drywall
Dimensional lumber
Plywood
Drywall Anchors
Tapcon Concrete Anchors
Different blades for different saws above

This is a hands-on class - so get ready to get your hands dirty and try out some basic tools and skills at the West Philly Tool Library!

The cost of this class is flexible. West Philly Tool Library is committed to keeping our classes affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. If you would like to pay less than the $75 ticket, please use coupon code &quot;DISCOUNT10&quot; or &quot;DISCOUNT20&quot; for $10 or $20 respectively off the class cost.

<title>Ultimate Guide to Oil Changes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jun 24</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-oil-changes-11-byo-car-1dd3</link>
<description>This 1:1 hands-on seminar goes in depth with the importance of the vehicle’s lubrication system and teaches you how to perform the most important maintenance item on every standard vehicle: changing the oil! You will receive personal 1:1 instruction on the steps needed to drain the oil, change the oil filter, and refill the engine with the proper grade and capacity. We will discuss important topics including: different types and grades of motor oil, safe jacking points and how to use ramps safely, maintenance schedules and resetting oil reminder lights, environmental concerns with oil spills and disposal, and so much more. In addition to receiving an oil change on your vehicle and the knowledge needed to do-it-yourself, you will also receive a custom printout with all of the critical info such as oil type, capacity, and torque specs to make your next oil change easier! All materials including oil and oil filter are included in the cost of the ticket. You don’t want to miss this comprehensive, step-by-step tutorial on one of the most DIY friendly repairs in the car world.

Please send an email to info@westphillytools.org with your vehicle&apos;s year, make, model, trim, and engine as well as if your last oil change was conventional or synthetic, and your license plate number and state. You will also receive an email from us, if we do not hear from you. This information is needed ASAP to ensure we have your correct oil type and filter. If we do not get this information from you at least one week before the class, your appointment will be cancelled without credit or refund.

Please also plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time. As the instructor is booked for a specific time slot and there may be other appointments booked before or after you, please be on-time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will be cancelled without credit or refund.

Due to the material costs associated with this class, no additional discounts are available. Also please consider paying more, if you are able, to help cover the costs of hosting this class and others like it.

------
A few notes about our updated pricing:

Each vehicle requires a different quantity and grade of oil as well as different costs for filters and other hardware which makes standardized class pricing difficult.

-For example: a Toyota Highlander requires almost double the oil quantity as a smaller Honda Fit. Additionally, some oil grades such as 0w-16 are more expensive than other fully synthetic grades, which are all more expensive than conventional motor oils.

WPTL&apos;s aims to provide affordable class programming to everyone in the community, including this class. The cost of oil has increased by 20% in 2026 alone. Since we are only a tool library, we do not receive any discounts or volume-based pricing agreements that would help reduce our costs. Thank you for your understanding!
------

Cancellations and Credit: If you have signed up for a class but are unable to attend, please complete the form at https://westphillytools.org/classes/request to cancel your enrollment. Per our policy, for cancellation requests received at least one week before the class, we will issue a credit towards a future class. Please consider that the instructor purchases all oil, oil filters, hardware, and any specialized tools prior to your arrival to this class. We are unable to guarantee credit for cancellation requests received less than seven days before the date of the class, although we will do our best to accommodate late cancellations if we are able to fill your spot. <title>Ultimate Guide to Oil Changes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jun 24</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-oil-changes-11-byo-car-fb87</link>

      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Jun 29</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-0a0b</link>

A few notes about our updated pricing:

Each vehicle requires a different quantity and grade of oil as well as different costs for filters and other hardware which makes standardized class pricing difficult.

-For example: a Toyota Highlander requires almost double the oil quantity as a smaller Honda Fit. Additionally, some oil grades such as 0w-16 are more expensive than other fully synthetic grades, which are all more expensive than conventional motor oils.

WPTL&apos;s aims to provide affordable class programming to everyone in the community, including this class. The cost of oil has increased by 30% in 2026 alone. Since we are only a tool library, we do not receive any discounts or volume-based pricing agreements that would help reduce our costs. Thank you for your understanding!

<title>Ultimate Guide to Oil Changes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jul 1</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-oil-changes-11-byo-car-4a03</link>

The cost of oil has increased by 30% in 2026 alone. Since we are only a tool library, we do not receive any discounts or volume-based pricing agreements that would help reduce our costs. Thank you for your understanding!

Please consider that the instructor purchases all oil, oil filters, hardware, and any specialized tools prior to your arrival to this class. <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Jul 6</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-cc8b</link>

<title>Build an Affordable Window Box or Outdoor Planter — Sat, Jul 11</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/build-an-affordable-window-box-or-outdoor-planter-e2dc</link>
<description>Ready to bring some greenery into your life? In this hands-on class, you’ll learn how to build your own custom wooden window box or outdoor planter—perfect for flowers, herbs, or veggies. Whether you&apos;re new to power tools or already comfortable with a saw, this workshop will guide you step by step through design, measuring, cutting, and assembling your own window box or planter.

We’ll cover tool safety, basic joinery, and how to choose the right materials for outdoor use. You’ll leave not only with a finished planter box, but also the skills and confidence to take on more woodworking projects at home. We’ll also talk through options for mounting your box securely to your windowsill or railing if that’s where you want it to live.

Tools you’ll learn to use:

    •    Measuring tape

    •    Miter saw

    •    Table saw

    •    Drill/Driver

    •    Finish nailer

All tools and materials will be provided. We use locally sourced cedar for all of our outdoor planters - which will last for years to come! No experience necessary—just bring your curiosity and a love for growing things!

<title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Jul 13</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-6061</link>

<title>Ultimate Guide to Oil Changes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jul 15</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-oil-changes-11-byo-car-5165</link>

The cost of oil has increased by 30% in 2026 alone. Since we are only a tool library, we do not receive any discounts or volume-based pricing agreements that would help reduce our costs. Thank you for your understanding!

<title>Ultimate Guide to Oil Changes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jul 15</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-oil-changes-11-byo-car-6897</link>

The cost of oil has increased by 30% in 2026 alone. Since we are only a tool library, we do not receive any discounts or volume-based pricing agreements that would help reduce our costs. Thank you for your understanding!

<title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Jul 20</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-bfde</link>

<title>Ultimate Guide to Brakes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jul 22</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-brakes-11-byo-car-37ed</link>
<description>This 1:1 hands-on seminar goes in-depth on your vehicle&apos;s braking system. You will receive personal 1:1 instruction on the steps needed to change your brake pads, rotors, and replace your brake fluid. We will discuss important topics including: OEM parts versus aftermarket, safe jacking points and how to use ramps safely, removing tires, proper techniques for lubricating caliper slides, flushing brake fluid, and so much more. In addition to receiving a full brake service on your vehicle and the knowledge needed to do-it-yourself, you will also receive a custom printout with all of the critical info to make your next brake service easier! . You don’t want to miss this comprehensive, step-by-step tutorial on a common repair in the car world.

PLEASE NOTE: Brake pads and rotors should only be replaced if they are close or at the end of their service life. The cost of this class does NOT include the cost of brake pads, rotors, or any hardware that may be required. After booking, we will contact you to arrange for the proper sourcing of these parts. We strongly encourage you to allow WPTL to purchase all necessary parts to ensure proper fitment and delivery prior to the class date.

Please send an email to info@westphillytools.org with your vehicle&apos;s year, make, model, trim, engine, and your license plate number and state. You will also receive an email from us, if we do not hear from you. This information is needed ASAP to ensure we have the correct parts for your specific vehicle. Should you choose to not provide this information or decline to purchase any of the recommended brake components for the class, your class will instead focus on uninstalling and reinstalling the same brake parts so you can learn the steps for your future brake service.

Please also plan to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to your appointment time. As the instructor is booked for a specific time slot and there may be other appointments booked before or after you, please be on-time. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your appointment will be cancelled without credit or refund. While unlikely, brake services may require additional hours if there is a complex issue or special order part needed. Please note that your vehicle may need to stay overnight or longer, depending on the unusual circumstance.

Also please consider paying more, if you are able, to help cover the costs of hosting this class and others like it.

      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Jul 27</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-c9b3</link>

<title>Ultimate Guide to Oil Changes: 1:1 BYO Car — Wed, Jul 29</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/ultimate-guide-to-oil-changes-11-byo-car-d6e0</link>

The cost of oil has increased by 30% in 2026 alone. Since we are only a tool library, we do not receive any discounts or volume-based pricing agreements that would help reduce our costs. Thank you for your understanding!
