Whether you&apos;re new to power tools or already comfortable with a saw, this workshop will guide you step by step through design, measuring, cutting, and assembling your own window box or planter.

We’ll cover tool safety, basic joinery, and how to choose the right materials for outdoor use. You’ll leave not only with a finished planter box, but also the skills and confidence to take on more woodworking projects at home. We’ll also talk through options for mounting your box securely to your windowsill or railing if that’s where you want it to live.

Tools you’ll learn to use:

    •    Measuring tape

    •    Miter saw

    •    Table saw

    •    Drill/Driver

      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Apr 6</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-da38</link>
<description>Welcome to the first part of our core DIY series where you will learn how to use basic tools and learn basic skills to help you with your DIY projects. In this first course, you will learn about all different types of saws, drills, and typical tools needed to hang a heavy backlit wall mounted mirror.

You might be asking, why a heavy backlit wall mounted mirror? Well, it applies to a very common household DIY project - how to properly mount an object like a TV, projector, or coat rack that must be hung properly to avoid injury. We also don&apos;t have a huge stock of heavy backlit wall mounted mirrors, so we will cut a mirror-shaped template out of plywood to mimic it. Thus this class gives students experience to a wide range of tools and materials, which is the goal of Tools and Skills: Part 1!

We will use the following tools during this class:

Miter saw
Pocket hole jig
Laser level/bubble level
Drill/impact driver
Rotary hammer drill with SDS Plus bits
Circular Saw
Jig Saw
Stud Finder
Inspection Camera
Different measuring tools

You will also get experience working with:

Drywall
Dimensional lumber
Plywood
Drywall Anchors
Tapcon Concrete Anchors
Different blades for different saws above

This is a hands-on class - so get ready to get your hands dirty and try out some basic tools and skills at the West Philly Tool Library!

The cost of this class is flexible. West Philly Tool Library is committed to keeping our classes affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. If you would like to pay less than the $75 ticket, please use coupon code &quot;DISCOUNT10&quot; or &quot;DISCOUNT20&quot; for $10 or $20 respectively off the class cost.

      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Apr 13</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-1b11</link>

      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Apr 20</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-41f6</link>

<description>NEW CLASS ALERT! Your favorite two queer auto mechanics, Ash and Mickey, present their newest class for the WPTL where you’ll learn all about the ins/outs, dos/don’ts, and hows/whys of buying a used car. Should you go to the dealership or browse Facebook Marketplace? Are low mileage vehicles vastly overpriced? What are you even looking for in a pre-inspection and test drive? What brands should you seek, and which should you avoid? Join us for a very important discussion, and get your hands dirty on a real vehicle that you’ll inspect as if you’re looking to buy it. Don’t let your next big purchase be a huge headache, and learn the skills you’ll need to own an old/used car!

      <title>Tools &amp; Skills: Part 1 — Mon, Apr 27</title>
      <link>https://www.westphillytools.org/classes/tools-skills-part-1-0ef8</link>
