Build your own Bookcase!

In this hands-on class, you'll learn how to design and build your own custom wooden bookshelf using basic woodworking tools and techniques. Perfect for beginners and intermediate DIYers alike, this workshop covers measuring and cutting lumber, drilling, assembly, sanding, and finishing. Participants will leave with a sturdy, functional bookshelf and the skills to tackle future woodworking projects with confidence. Forget IKEA and other cheap flat pack furniture, learn to build a quality bookcase and gain some new skills! All tools and materials are provided. All participants will be able to walk away with a 24" W x 10"D x 46" H bookcase, crafted from cabinet grade wood. We will do our best to accommodate small adjustments (lower, wider, more shelves). This is a hands-on class - so get ready to get your hands dirty and try something new at the West Philly Tool Library! The cost of this class is flexible. West Philly Tool Library is committed to keeping our classes affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. Please consider that the cost of the plywood alone is around $100 with the balance going towards other materials (screws, etc.) and compensating the instructor. Per our policy, for cancellation requests received at least one week before the class, we will issue a credit towards a future class. We are unable to guarantee credit for cancellation requests received less than seven days before the date of the class, although we will do our best to accommodate late cancellations if we are able to fill your spot. Tickets are transferable; please notify us using this form prior to the class if someone else will be attending in your stead and provide the attendees name and email address.
